Nasir<\/em><\/strong>, executively produced by Kanye West has been well received by fans and critics alike.\u00a0 It is a testament to his greatness that after being in the game for close to 30 years he can deliver a project that many are saying is one of his best ever.\u00a0 He has had countless great moments and such an influence on the hip hop culture.\u00a0 Wanted to look back at a time where Nas\u2019s career was at a crossroad and the relevancy of forging a relationship with Dr. Dre.\u00a0 The impact it would ultimately have.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996 the East Coast and West Coast rivalry was at a fever pitch.\u00a0 At the forefront was the clashing of Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records.\u00a0 Dr. Dre had walked away from Death Row Records to form Aftermath Entertainment.\u00a0 He wanted the opportunity to focus on producing for other artists while in a healthy environment.\u00a0 Dr. Dre had befriended Nas at a concert, sharing his admiration and respect for him.\u00a0 He ultimately wanted to get in the studio with Nas and put out some music.<\/p>\n<p>Nas was very receptive to the proposition. His manager Steve Stoute saw it as a great opportunity as well.\u00a0 Nas\u2019s debut album, <strong><em>Illmatic<\/em><\/strong> was highly critically acclaimed.\u00a0 Steve Stoute\u2019s concern was if Nas\u2019s formula for his sophomore album <strong><em>It Was Written <\/em><\/strong>remained the same then his career would stall.\u00a0 Steve Stoute had already lined up Nas with the Trackmasters production team of Poke and Tone.\u00a0 They had helped LL Cool J resurrect his career the prior year with their involvement with the <strong><em>Mr. Smith<\/em><\/strong> project. Adding Dr. Dre at the time into the mix was a no-brainer.\u00a0 It would give Nas a new sound and a broader appeal.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>It Was Written<\/em><\/strong> till this day is Nas\u2019s best-selling album.\u00a0 Dr. Dre contributed the track \u201cNas Is Coming\u201d.\u00a0 On the track Nas and Dr. Dre share the sentiment that the East coast West coast rivalry was nonsense.\u00a0 How people need to move beyond it, work together and get paid.\u00a0 It was a teaser for what was to come between Nas and Dr. Dre. The next step would ultimately be an album put out by The Firm on Dr Dre\u2019s label.\u00a0 The Firm was a group consisting of Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, and Cormega.\u00a0 Dr. Dre would split production duties with the Trackmasters.\u00a0 The Firm made its debut on <strong><em>It Was Written<\/em><\/strong> as well on the track \u201cAffirmative Action\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Nas feat.
