{"id":712,"date":"2018-07-01T20:16:40","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T02:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hiphopnewsjournal.com\/?p=712"},"modified":"2018-07-19T10:39:53","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T16:39:53","slug":"royce-da-59-the-blessing-in-disguise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hiphopnewsjournal.com\/staging\/royce-da-59-the-blessing-in-disguise\/","title":{"rendered":"Royce da 5\u20199\u201d: The Blessing in Disguise"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Royce da 5\u20199\u201d has been a very prolific artist in recent years.\u00a0 His most recent project <strong><em>\u00a0Book of Ryan <\/em><\/strong>dropped in May .\u00a0 Once again delivering a high caliber pure hip hop album.\u00a0 Prior to that his collaboration album <strong><em>PRhyme 2<\/em><\/strong> with legendary producer DJ Premier came out in late March.\u00a0 As well as the <strong><em>Bar Exam 4<\/em><\/strong> mixtape hosted by DJ Green Lantern just over a year ago.\u00a0 Early on in his career he made a decision that for a time he regretted.\u00a0 However in the big picture it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>Royce da 5\u20199\u201d \u2013 Caterpillar feat. Eminem &amp; King Green<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dARAN1z2KqY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>PRhyme \u2013 Rock It<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0rkprvDvCB0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Royce da 5\u20199\u201d \u2013 Gov Ball feat. Westside Gunn &amp; Conway<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TaXdxKtIqhc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Royce had befriended Eminem in 1997 at a local concert venue in Detroit.\u00a0 Royce was the opening act for Usher and Eminem had a booth promoting his <strong><em>Slim Shady EP<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Kino, Royce\u2019s manager had initiated the conversation between the two.\u00a0 The following year Eminem signed a deal with Dr Dre\u2019s Aftermath label.\u00a0 Royce had made such an impression on him that he forwarded his demo to Dr Dre.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Dre was impressed and reached out to Royce to be flown out. (http:\/\/www.inflexwetrust.com\/2016\/04\/07\/video-royce-da-59-on-how-he-met-dr-dre\/)\u00a0 Once Royce arrived he went to the studio to work on what would ultimately result in Dr Dre\u2019s album <strong><em>The Chronic 2001<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Royce would end up writing the verses for \u201cThe Message\u201d.\u00a0 The most powerful song on the album which served as a tribute to Dr Dre\u2019s deceased brother.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Royce da 5\u20199\u201d Meeting Dr Dre<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nPncV95swCY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Other contributions to the project Royce provided was the original version of \u201cXxplosive\u201d titled as \u201cThe Way I Be Pimpin\u201d.\u00a0 The other track was \u201cThe Throne Is Mine\u201d.\u00a0 He had also recorded\u00a0 the track \u201cBad Meets Evil\u201d for Eminem\u2019s album <strong><em>The Slim Shady LP<\/em><\/strong>. Dr Dre put a deal on the table for Royce to sign with his Aftermath Records.\u00a0 The deal was for 250k and unlimited access to Dr Dre\u2019s beats.\u00a0 However there was another deal from Tommy Boy Records for a cool million dollars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dr Dre &#8211; The Way I Be Pimpin (Xxplosive orig) feat. Royce da 5\u20199\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tTP5QehtNt0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Royce ultimately decided to go with Tommy Boy Records.\u00a0 He claimed it was the biggest regret of his career.\u00a0 Seeing though how his career turned out Royce is content.\u00a0 Royce has been able to put out a lot of high quality hip hop content throughout the years.\u00a0 Whether it was through solo albums and mixtapes or through his group Bad Meets Evil with Eminem.\u00a0 Or PRhyme which consist of Royce and legendary producer DJ Premier and lastly the recently disbanded supergroup Slaughterhouse that he was a part of.\u00a0 He has had a long and fruitful career.\u00a0 Royce is well loved by his fans and critics alike.<\/p>\n<p>There is a chance if Royce had signed to Aftermath that he would have had a higher profiled career.\u00a0 However at that point being on Aftermath was not a guarantee.
