This coming Friday DJ Muggs, hip hop producer extraordinaire and a founding member of Cypress Hill will be releasing the project Dia Del Asesinato. To help promote the project DJ Muggs just released the single, “Yacht Party” featuring Raekwon. DJ Muggs has been working together and producing tracks with Wu-Tang members for over 20 years. Two of the members, RZA and GZA are officially part of his group, Soul Assassins. Wanted to highlight some of the tracks DJ Muggs has collaborated on with Wu-Tang members over the years.

The first collaboration that took place was from the 1997 album Soul Assassins, Chapter 1 track “Third World”. RZA and GZA were featured on the track with DJ Muggs handling the production. The following year Muggs would produce the title track “Bulworth (They Talk About It While We Live It)” for the soundtrack of Warren Beatty’s film. It would be the first time Muggs would work with Method Man as well as KRS-One, Prodigy, and Kam.

He would link up again with GZA on “When the Fat Lady Sings” from 2000’s Soul Assassins II. DJ Muggs would then work with Method Man on Cypress Hill’s 2001 Stoned Raiders on the track “Red, Meth & B”.  The track also featured Method Man’s cohort Redman.  In 2002 Muggs produced “Luminal” for GZA’s 2002 album “Legend of the Liquid Sword”.

This led to 2005’s GrandMasters where DJ Muggs produced the entire album for GZA. Both Raekwon and RZA along with Cypress Hill band mate Sen Dog would appear on “Advance Pawns”. RZA would show up again on “All in Together Now” and Raekwon on “Destruction of a Guard”. That same year DJ Muggs would work once again with Raekwon on “Black Opera” from Supernatural’s S.P.I.T.

In 2008 GZA hopped on the track “Triple Threat” alongside Chace Infinite on the DJ Muggs produced project Pain Language that featured Planet Asia. He would then reunite with Raekwon once again on “Chase Manhattan” from Ill Bill’s 2010 Kill Devil Hills. That following year Muggs would pair up with GZA on the “Lyrical Swords” remix with Ras Kass off the compilation Dreddy Kruger Presents: Think Differently Music- Wu Tang Meets The Indie CultureThe Lost Files.

DJ Muggs and the Wu-Tang Clan have such a rich history working together for over 20 years. Much like RZA in his prime DJ Muggs has a knack of masterfully taking soulful samples and meshing them over hip hop beats to create classics. The similarity in their styles is why DJ Muggs has such a great chemistry with the Wu-Tang members. It is good to see that this day in age they continue working together putting out high caliber material.
