DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9” formed the duo PRhyme back in 2014. They have released two projects to date that have both received high praise and critical acclaim within the hip hop community.   They have also embarked on two tours together.  Well before the formation of PRhyme, DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9” have been collaborating and putting out classic material.  Let us revisit those moments that helped these legendary players in the hip hop game to put out full length projects out together.

The first track they worked on together was “Boom” which initially came out towards the end of 1999. It turned out to be the debut single from his album Vice City which would be released in 2002.  The single set the tone for his career of being a highly regarded underground emcee.  The next classic track between DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9’’ was “Hip Hop” off of the 2004 sophomore album Death Is Certain.

As far as studio albums are concerned the duo next worked on Royce’s 2009 project Street Hop.  This time around DJ Premier was the executive producer.  While manning the boards for the lead single “Shake This” as well as album cuts “Something 2 Ride 2” and “Hood Love”.

Then popping up on 2011’s Success Is Certain.  For this first time DJ Premier was able to produce the group Bad Meets Evil consisting of Royce and Eminem on the remix to the lead single “Writer’s Block”.  Royce and Eminem had just released the album Hell: The Sequel just a few months prior.  DJ Premier then also produced the follow up single “Second Place”.

With the fan reception and critical acclaim of the tracks DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9’’ have made together throughout the years it was only a matter of time before they would be working on entire projects together. After all these years DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9” remain on top of their game. True hip hop heads will be clamoring for “PRhyme Time” for years to come.
