In recent years West Coast hip hop legend MC Eiht has been active putting out projects including 2017’s Which Way Iz West, executively produced by DJ Premier. In addition to last year’s Gangsta Bizness with his group Compton’s Most Wanted. Prior to that it he had not put out a full-fledged studio project since 2006. At this point in time MC Eiht had joined Goldie Loc from The Eastsidaz and Kam to form the group Warzone, orchestrated by Snoop Dogg.

All three artists were seeking solo record deals. Snoop Dogg felt that with MC Eiht lining up with Goldie Loc and Kam they would be able to land a favorable record deal as a group. The trio first officially appeared on the track “Don’t Stop” with Kurupt from Snoop Dogg’s Blue Carpet Treatment album released in 2006. MC Eiht also contributed to Snoop Dogg’s single “Candy (Drippin’ Like Water) alongside westcoast heavyweights Tha Dogg Pound, E-40, and fellow War Zone member Goldie Loc. It was one of MC Eiht’s biggest songs in quite some time.

The following year Snoop put out the Unreleased Heatrocks compilation which included War Zone on West Allstars. MC Eiht would also appear with Snoop Dogg on the track “Blastin”. That same year Snoop put out the compilation Snoop Dogg Presents The Big Squeeze that he had produced the majority of himself. Warzone contributed on “Shackled Up” and MC Eiht was featured on “Get Your Body Moving”. It was evident that Snoop Dogg wanted Warzone to shine, showcasing them on any project he was affiliated with.

When 2008 rolled around it was time to put together the full-fledged project that Snoop Dogg had envisioned for the War Zone. A video had been put out for the track “Damn”. Ultimately though no deal came into fruition and the project was shelved. All parties went their separate ways. Altogether thirteen tracks were recorded. It’s a shame that it was never released because the music captured the true essence of west coast hip hop. Other standout tracks included “Flashbaccs” featuring Snoop Dogg and “When I Ain’t Around” with Nate Dogg.

In a sit down with Talib Kweli on the platform the People’s Party podcast MC Eiht shared that even though War Zone did not work out he remained in the good graces with Snoop Dogg. MC EIht is slated this year to put out his next solo album Official. By moving independently anything is possible. Maybe MC EIht will line back up with Snoop Dogg and fellow members of War Zone and put out a project. It is something that would be embraced by the true Westcoast hip hop fans.
