It has been over thirty years since Too Short introduced to the world Spice 1 and Rappin’ 4-Tay. Last week Spice 1 dropped the album Platinum OG which including the song “Drive Way” featuring Rappin’ 4-Tay. The hip hop veterans showcasing that they have not lost a step over a g-funk track sampling Atlantic Starr’s classic “Let’s Get Closer”. The two had been collaborating with each other since the late nineties.
Spice 1 and Rappin’ 4-Tay first appeared together on “360” from Eightball’s 1998 project Lost. That same year Spice 1 would show up on “Can Ya Feel Me” from Rappin’ 4-Tay’s bigga than da Game. Rappin’ 4-Tay the following year would then go on to join super producer Ant Banks and Captain Save’em to form T.W.D.Y. They put out the album Derty Werk.
The project included “Shook N****s” with Spice 1. Several years would pass until the two re-emerged together on “Das Ok” from Spice 1’s Spiceberg Slim released in 2002. They following year they would drop “KeepHustlin” from Rappin’ 4 Tay’s Gangsta Gumbo. It wouldn’t be until Platinum OG that the two artists would work together again.

Even though there was a seventeen year gap since Spice 1 and Rappin 4-Tay worked together, the chemistry is still there. What is more impressive is that they have maintained their integrity. Sticking to the subject matter and sound that has given them both careers stretching decades long. Not worried about how it will be received in the marketplace.
