In the mid to late 90s I could find myself staying up late Sunday nights listening and recording the hip-hop radio show “Future Flavas” hosted by the iconic Marley Marl and Pete Rock on the New York radio station Hot 97.  The duo had a very impressive run, conducting the show from 1995 to 2003 and having a latter run on New York radio station Power 105 from 2003 to 2010. The show encapsulated the underground New York hip hop sound at the time, “raw and uncut”.  Exclusive tracks, freestyles, and remixes of iconic songs never heard anywhere else.

Wanted to showcase some of these rarities featuring iconic artists and remixed by the incomparable Pete Rock.  It is a reminder of a time when fans would make sure they were stocked with blank cassette tapes ready to record and listen to hip-hop music at its finest.  Whether it was in their walkman, car, home system, or boombox. Each week Marley Marl and Pete Rock would “play some treats for them”.

The first track is Nas featuring Scarface – Favour for a Favour (Pete Rock Remix)

Second track is MOP featuring Kool G Rap – Stick To Ya Gunz (Pete Rock Remix)

Third track is Jay -Z – This Life Forever (Pete Rock Remix)

Fourth track is Rakim – The Saga Begins (Pete Rock Remix)

The fifth and final track is A Tribe Called Quest – 1nce Again (Pete Rock Remix)
